What Decade Is This???

Why can't people see that hate is hate?... It doesn't matter what side of the line you're on and it doesn't matter if you're answering hate with hate.
Gainsville, Fl. REVERAND Terry Jones may, or may not, be planning to lead his congregation in a good 'ol book burning event. They might burn copies of the Quran to protest the building of the Islamic center planned to be built near Ground Zero.
As a "servant of Jesus Christ" instead of burning books, shouldn't he be encouraging people to follow his teachings?
"But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;" Matthew 5:44

I feel sorry for the people who are insulted by the building of this CENTER OF FAITH. I'm going to call a spade a spade here, but are you so shallow minded that you can't possibly, for 2 seconds, look outside of yourself for just  a moment?

1. This country was founded on the belief of FREEDOM OF RELIGION! with FREEDOM to PRACTICE that religion.
2. 9-11 was not instigated with church authority. This was a group of radicals who just happened to be Muslim. If they'd been Catholic, no one would be questioning a new church.
3. For just a moment... Can we consider that the building of the Islamic Center might be an act of good faith? Perhaps this is their way of saying, "This won't happen again!"

I am so tired of ignorant, close-minded people.

While I'm on the subject of news headlines... I want to make a comment on another one currently in the news. A Federal Court has ruled that Clinton's "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy is unconstitutional. Don't jump to conclusions. I think it's past time for this to no longer be an issue. Who you love should not be an issue for ANYTHING in this country. I am sorry for the 12,500 service men and women who've been kicked out of the military as a result of this policy. It isn't right, but I just feel that history is getting a bit blurred here. Can we remember what would have happened BEFORE Clinton instilled this policy if you were in the US Military and came out of the closet or got found out? Not good enough, but a compromise for it's time. And don't forget how outraged the haters were with even this little concession.

"Progressive success did the Gay Rights Movement gain during the last decades concerning the military issue. In 1942 the U.S. military took side in the controversial issue about homosexuality, as it banned all homosexuals and denied them the right to enter military service by arguing that their presence would make heterosexual soldiers feel "uncomfortable" and decrease their efficiency and productivity.
Although gays have been asking for equal rights since then, it was President Clinton who took the first pro-gay step. Being lobbied by successful gay rights activists, president Clinton introduced the so-called "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. Although "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" does not remove the ban of homosexuals in the military (what president Clinton had promised the gay community during his political campaign), it legalizes the existence of gay soldiers in the military as long as they do not publicly reveal their sexual orientation ("don't tell"). Furthermore, military officials are not allowed to ask soldiers about their sexual orientation ("don't ask")."

And interesting bit. This decision was made in Riverside, Ca... at the same time in history as the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy came into being.... weren't the citizens of Riverside trying to make it illegal for homosexuals to even LIVE in their town? ~ unfortunately, I have spent an hour on google trying to confirm exactly what this initiative was, and can't find it... Maybe mom can help me out...

I find several interesting - contradictory points of this whole thing. Not your contradictory, but of the whole world.

1) There's already a mosque within a block of the proposed site. That's why it's being built there, the current mosque is too small and people are having to pray on the side walk.

2) It's not a big domed mosque that is being built, it is a small mosque (no dome) inside a community center that will offer a lot more than just worship and prayer to all in the community.

3) Mr. Jones is ignorant of all things Islam which he says is of the devil. He is so much against Islam (the religion that isn't Baptist) that he's made and profitted from several video sermons condemning the religion of the devil (paraphrased.)

4) When he went to have his meeting with the "Iman" (idiot) the Imam asked him what would Jesus do? Mr Jones didnt' answer him (maybe you should offer up some lessons to Mr Jones... and a whole lot of others on what Jesus would do.)

5) Mr Jones now says that the Iman he talked to said they would move the proposed mosque (center - idiot) and now says that he was lied to. I bet he's American his government has been lying to him for decades, I bet he doesn't even know it.

6) For all who think Mr. Jones canceled his proposed Quran burning, wrong, he's just postponed it.

7) As to the Catholic Church - they have admitted their colusion with the Nazis during WWII, their use of forced labor from concentration camps, several leading Nazi and Fascist leaders during the war were Catholic and retained their good standing in the church until after the Nazis were defeated. Even one priest in colusion with the Nazis remained in good and active standing after the conclusion of the war. Hmmm, where did all those art works go?

This would mean the Catholic Church turned their eye and morals to the slaughter of 5.1 million European Jews, 1.8 million Poles, 500,000 Serbs, 3.3 million Russian POWs, 130,000 Romanian Gypsies, 85 thousand Mentally and physically disabled, up to 15 thousand homosexuals, 80 thousand Free Masons, 5 thousand Jehovah's Witnesses, and an unnumbered count of Blacks.

I get tired of hearing, "But they dance in the streets when "they" do something to us. It's a handful of extremist that dance in the street, burn our flag...oh wait we've done that ourselves. Before we get all holier than thou remember WMP, Guantanamo Bay, waterboarding, the colateral damages of a war against Afghanistan, then Iraq, and oh now Afghanistan again - just because we can't find one small group of loud and angry fanatical maniacs.

As for the Riverside ban, I have no idea. I will have to look it up.

Oh god I'll probably come up with more. I had this great list I left... at work. Duh.

I have been DESPERATELY wanting to write a Dear Fucktards entry on this whole thing...the mosque building, the infuriating Terry Jones and just the general, disgusting plague of Islamophobia that so many Americans seem infected with...but I have two gigantic issues...

1. The whole idea is so large and involved, I don't know where to start.

2. I don't feel that I know enough about Islam to write a well informed piece.

I wonder if Jones would look Muhammad in the face and say that his faith is of the Devil. Does he realize that Islam accepts both the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament as authentic divine revelations? Simply calling the Qur'an the FINAL word of God? And that Muhammad is considered the last prophet in a long series of prophets that includes such as Moses and JESUS!

Haters need to look at their own history before attacking others. It is human nature to fear that which you don't understand, but when you let your ignorance rule you and allow yourself to be consumed by your hate, you are the monster.. you are the one to be feared.

Look at all of the horrible things that Christianity has done in the name of God and protection of the faith since 410, when Honorius wrote some of the first laws making "unChristian" thoughts and practices punishable by exile or death.
